It's like Germany and France had a secret love child, Strasbourg.

We accidentally slept until 1pm here. I mean that's only 7am our time. :) We needed it and I'm happy to say we're planning on calling it an early night tonight as well in hopes of getting caught up. The next few days we will be on the move constantly so blogging may be minimal and fatigue will be high.  Once we finally got moving we ate lunch and headed to the European Complex. First stop was to get a day pass for the public transportation. They have the 1-3 people passes for cheaper than the price of 2 singles, which is great for us since we are always traveling together. While waiting and breaking our bigger bills, I explored the area a bit and took some quick photos. Our first tram was HOT, our second was air conditioned. :)
Fruit stand... or perhaps E. Coli stand? ;) haha They said today they think the culprit is bean sprouts.

Mmmm sandwich...

Blue eyed babies sure are going for cheap these days.
The European Complex isn't as amazing as you might think but that being said the EU Parliament building was pretty cool. Our next stop was the Human Rights court which was pretty cool, with all the protesting signs and even a person on a hunger strike. Finally we saw the Counsel of Europe which was housed in the palace which was not much of a palace... perhaps a building from an old Star Trek episode but not a palace.

Jason was super excited to be seeing the EU Parliament building.

I was super excited to see the flags after the UN fiasco.

This was a human right art campaign outside the EU Parliament. This section was about freedom of speech.

The back side of the building.

Hunger Strike

Human Rights Court.

I had Jason read to me about this statue and I don't remember what it was about exactly anymore... must be all the sun. I do know it's about suffering and the struggle of a specific group of people.
Clouds started rolling in and the temperatures became more bearable.

Not much a Palace, especially by France standards ;)

We walked a bit further and decided we needed to see the Rhien River. So this time we took buses. I really believe the best way to explore the locals is their public transit. Anyway, we got to the Rhien area and wow was it ghetto. Not a little.. but alot. People in campers, fishy (as in suspicious no smelly) men outside of simi trucks... WEIRD. We snapped a couple of pics and hopped back on the bus towards town. I think if we had wanted to walk we would have see a better area but I wasn't up for the challenge.

Which way do we go?

A Fence we crossed after decided the "Danger of Death" didn't apply to us.

There it is... The Rhein.

We found a little soccer field in the ghetto.
After that adveture we decided to get some dinner, get some snacks for later and call it an early night. For the next few days we'll be moving almost daily so we need the rest. It's supposed to storm tomorrow and we're heading to Basel Switzerland. We'll see how it all goes. :)
Swans are everywhere here. Beautiful.

Slightly over cooked Creme Brulee. It was still yummy.
Final thoughts on Strasbourg
  • I loved the old town.
  • It's pretty much just a city like any other except it's a missmash.
  • The EU complex was the best thing they had to offer for me to enjoy.
  • All in all, a decent place but it's not my favorite. I'd pick Paris over Strasbourg any day.
  • I can get plain and slightly cold water here!
  • I saw a hooker in our lobby. Pretty exciting. I thought about using some of my inappropriate French I learned... but decided against it.
