We slept so well after all that exploration of Rome we barely got out in time for checkout. I think it was a mixture of the air conditioning, darkening planks (they weren’t curtains) and the absolute silence. It was MARVELOUS. We stopped and had a little lunch then went to the market for some snacks. The rest of the early afternoon was spent heading to the airport. As a side note if you ever travel with me, snack and water a vital to me having fun while traveling. : )
The airport was much nicer in Rome than Basel and although the cattle call line up was still annoying it wasn’t a full flight and there was plenty of space. However, there was a douche American that was not only trying to break rules: like showing your ticket once on the plane but also was loud and rude. I can’t help but blame him and people like him for the reason some countries have an unfavorable opinion of us. This particular American and I had a brief run-in while we were trying to de-plane and I held my tongue but I really wanted to tell him all about his entitled attitude. We had to hurry to catch two different buses because the last bus of the day was around 7pm and the back up plan of taking a taxi wasn’t an much of an option because it would cost around 75 Euros. Ugh.. but we made it!

The photos don't do it justice. The color of the water is AMAZING. |
We’re staying in Eze, which is a little town between Nice and Monaco. We have a great view overlooking the Mediterranean Sea or Cote d’Azur and our little apartment is right above Fragonard. We paid a bit more for this “hotel” but the idea was that we’d be saving money by cooking for ourselves and this would be like a little vacation in the middle of our vacation. Basically we needed sleep and clean laundry and so far it’s been perfect.
Our days here are long and relaxing. We go to the market, not even a minute away. We sleep in, we sit on our balcony, we take a nap and then we watch the ocean. We’ve done laundry and took half a day to explore Monaco (where I gambled us back our cost of entry (20EU), the amount we set out to play with, which was 40 EU , the round trip bus fare to Monaco and had 10 Euros left over to buy chocolate with. We went to Fragonard. We explored the Mid-evil village today and perhaps tomorrow we’ll go to the beach. Regardless it’s been very relaxing. The biggest distraction from our relaxation has been the occasional donkey noise (yes, donkey) and vroom of a Ferrari. We’ve actually seen 5 so far. Most of them are red, but we did see one yellow.

Would you like a parking spot? They're auctioning one in Monaco for 40,000 Euros. |

The Church at the top of the village. I'm unsure what's causing the photo to look like that with the line because on my computer it's fine... It was beautiful. |

There is a hotel at the top of Eze Village and they use donkeys to get their luggage up there. We can hear every time they take someones stuff up. |
It’s been weird with nothing to do but relax… limited television because I can’t understand most of it, no homework, nothing that has to be done, no internet (because it’s too pricey) although you can see I broke down and bought an hour to post this blog and to check out how to get to our next location but it’s be fabulous! I have to say it’s just what we needed. Hopefully this will refill our battery to help us through the next couple of weeks of explorations.
I miss you all and don’t tell anyone but I’m starting to get a little home sick. I love all this exploration but I miss my babies (yes I’m referring to my pets). I think back about how my parents went to Germany when I was an infant. I can’t imagine how hard that must have been on my mom.
