A Christmas Eve in Paris

**Some of the links lead to art with graphic nudity if you are easily offended don't click the links. I must say you should however take the time to see  “La Nature se dévoilant devant la Science”.

Today we went to the Musée d’Orsay. I was so excited because they have a large collection of Courbet paintings. We braved the snow, climbed the stairs and the museum signage says no pictures. That’s a bummer. But that’s okay; we’re going to get to see this painting called L’Origine du monde (The Origin of the World) that I’ve wanted to see for a long time. So, I gave up the whole bummed-about-no-camera-usage and enjoyed the paintings and sculptures. We say works by Monet, Picasso, Degas, Manet, Rodin, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Renoir, and more, and then we finally got to Courbet’s section – and there is a postcard of this world famous painting with a sign that says “L’Origine du monde is on loan to the Louvre”. AHHHHHHHHHHHH what?! We were just there two days ago but didn’t bother with the little exhibit that, as it turns out, Courbet’s work was in. I collected myself and looked for his second painting I adore, “Self-Portrait”, but it wasn’t there either. So I searched for the last painting I wanted to see by him, called “Sleep”, but nothing. By that point I felt defeated and hungry, but we headed to the second floor where I discovered my favorite piece of art in the whole museum: “La Nature se dévoilant devant la Science”. As I said, I couldn’t take pictures so if you decide to click on any of those links I suggest it be  “La Nature se dévoilant devant la Science”.

We stopped at a sandwich shop for a quick panini and chocolate tart before heading back into the métro to do some shopping. We’ve been having a hard time keeping all the junk we need with us, so we decided to buy a cheap backpack for Jason to carry. Jason did the research and found that Decathalon would be a good choice because they have tons of options and are inexpensive. I fund a super cute Puma bag for 12€ but it was pink and grey. Jason didn’t seem so thrilled so we ended up with a black backback with orange accents for 11.50€. I got some cheap extra insoles for my shoes and was trying to get a cute watch but the only color they had was army green so I decided against it.

Back to our arrondissement, we had to pick up a few things since the markets will be closed tomorrow. We finally got a small easy-to-carry booklet of maps of Paris, groceries for tomorrow and my first ever bûche de Noël (yule log). Well, we actually decided to get to individual bûchettes instead because the smallest bûche was 18€ and really, who needs that much pastry goodness? : )

It’s Friday, and in the Bergstresser-Simpson, house that means pizza. Tonight we’re having frozen pizza; the options were slightly limited since we’re shopping in our small G20 grocery, and I don’t like eggs so we ended up with a ham and cheese pizza. Let’s just say it tastes interesting. ; )

Our frozen 2€ 50 pizza.

Lastly we attended Christmas mass at the Sacré-Cœur. No pictures can be taken inside but I snuck a picture after mass from the outside. That doesn't count right?! The picture doesn't do it justice and I just want to say it was one of the most amazing Christmas services I've been too. On the way to mass there was an amazing veiw of the Eiffle Tower all lit up but I was sooo cold I couldn't hold the camera still and if we use the flash it won't show up. I had one that was kinda decent and oops I deleted. So my luck. Anyway, Merry Christmas my friends! :) I am thankful for each and everyone of you and I miss you dearly.

Merry Christmas to us. :)
