Attempt 2 A flight and day in Germany

Holy crap am I tired.  We had an hour layover in Iceland and it was so weird. I can’t wait to spend some time there. Sadly the flights seemed so long and I think after staying up much of the night before it started to get to us.

Very modern feel to the airport.

Pretty sure that airplane is the Iron Maden 2011 tour plane.

When we landed in Frankfurt I had to eat. I was at my HANGER place and actually briefly cried a little bit (I blame it on fatigue and worry about Courage) when the crazy lady ran into me with “peddling card” on the plane. Sadly it was a McDonalds, but it really didn’t matter at that point I needed food. From there we hoped on a train to Darmstaudt. This is a place of historical significance for my family and where the Frankeinstien Castle is. I have heard stories about the Bergstresser that gave birth there and I’ve always wanted to see it. Needless to say I was on a mission. Sadly, after 2 train switches, a map and lots of directions from a very kind man I chickened out as we headed towards the woods. Not knowing what street to be on and the fact that they warned us it would take a good hour to reach the top of the hill just to see the ruins… Were thinking we might try and go back but the train from Heidleburg was 27 Euros for both of us and took an hour. Sooo needless to say the verdict is still out on that one. Yes, I’ve always wanted to see it but I didn’t know it’s be a mile hike in Germany woods with no GPS or road names.

Looked like an episode of Skins getting ready to happen, with all these teens, bikes and camping gear.  (The BBC version not MTV version).

Darmstadt train station.

Yay an Aldi!

The very nice guy that helped us with directions and gave us a map.

Still trying to figure it out..

An hour of me in the woods in Germany.... humm....

Maybe if we had a bike? ;)

No veggies or fruit just Pretzels!

We headed here to Heidleburg to our little 3-4 day refuge. It’s nice, kinda noisy but it quiets when we close the windows. After arriving we got dinner at a traditional German restaurant, scoped the laundramat and now we’re off to bed. Can’t believe we’re finally here in Europe. If you are also following the Courage drama he is home now. His trauma was quiet serious and they are keeping him quiet. It’s going to be a long road to rehab but hopefully  he’ll make a full recover.
Greeted by the Marlboro man.

New hotel. Not bad.. and I get my own blanket. ;)

What's that on your pillow you ask? Well that's goodnight gummi bears!!

Yum..

Ugh, Sour Kraut... I don't know how I can be German and dislike it.

Amazing gummi bear art. Now I remember how I'm German. :)
